The subject matter of the lyrics was a bit of good cheeky fun for me. I wanted the point of view to come from a fan of songwriters who coveted all of the ‘secrets’ behind writing a good song. At the end of the first verse, they say ‘give us the key.’ But, the key of the song was already given away in the first two lines of that same verse. It’s not a difficult code to crack either (at least I assume it’s not).
Musically, I enjoyed putting this together. All of the elements seemed to bond to each other well. The guitars seemed to follow the bass, and the bass seemed to follow the drums. I had every intention of asking other friends to play on more of these ditties. But I found myself getting more and more possessive as the songwriting process went down that proverbial rabbit hole. Each new tune I wrote, I found myself just wanting to start and finish it myself. I’m too much of a loner for my own good, I know. Hopefully, I’ll be in more of a sharing frame of mind when it comes time to write the next album.
